I am not sure it is customary to present one self here, but I will do it anyway: I was born in 1974 and grew up in Hamburg, Germany. Since 2006 I live in Lund in Sweden. I have a PhD in physics and work in the scientific management of an international research center.
Re: UK terminology
I've not really worked on a newspaper where header slugs were used.
Re: UK terminology

Spanish Linotype video
Just adding to the collection, a very good video of a retired Spanish Linotype operator explaining how a Linotype works.
Re: UK terminology
In my experience they were usually called "lines" or "slugs."
UK terminology
I'm researching some terminology: could any Linotype users tell me what UK Linotype users called the piece of metal forming a single line of type? Did you use "slug" from the American usage?
Oiling a Ludlow Typograph - video
Nice video posted by the Museum of Printing showing Dave Seat lubricating a Ludlow Typograph. Anyone still operating a Ludlow?
