On its introduction in 1962, the Electron was said to be the fastest linecaster in the world.

It used Teletypesetting to automatically select matrices through a keyboard operated via perforated tape.

It used hydraulic power for quadding (putting the ‘white space’ into lines of print), for justification and for magazine changing.

Linotype claimed a speed of 15 newspaper lines per minute compared to 12 per minute averaged by the Intertype C4 High Speed using Teletypesetting.
