Rob Clayton offers the following:

Quote

It is an eight unit printing press. Without seeing in the flesh it is not possible to say whether it would be a wallpaper press for a web width of 600mm or a textile roller printing press about 1500mm wide. The large cylinder would be wrapped with a felt blanket the web of either calico or paper would be in roll form and would be fed into the press to go round the cylinder either from a basement below whereby the web after going thru the print units would be fed back into the basement where it would be festooned until dried by hot air.

It could date from any time from 1850 to 1920 when the big cyliner was replaced by individual rubber rollers at each print unit.During the 1950's this form of common impression cylinder press was reintroduces to print stretchable polythene.
