Printle: A Printing Word Game from Metal Type

Mechanic

I think the Beijing opening ceremony deserves a mention on this site, after all it seemed to be a celebration for old printers. Very impressive though.

Saw part of it George, the gunpowder, the paper-making, then the thing with the movable type going up and down.

Were there any more print-related Olympic displays?

That was about it Dave.  Dancers drew on the large sheet of paper on which the type had been standing to depict some type of legend and, towards the end, children coloured in the scene.  The painting was lifted up into the sky and that was about it.  They then went on to depict their involvement in space travel.

Imagine a world in which the only way Olympics results could be brought to the rest of the world was by the medium of hot metal. This is what the viewers aren't seeing and, of course, don't need to see.

I guess we need to remember sometimes the world has moved on.
