Pagination Gone Awry

My wife saw The Maltese Falcon at the library and decided to re-read it after many years.  The first page she started to read was a little confusing as it appeared to start in the middle of something.  Further examination revealed it was page 5! It was followed by pages 6, 3, 4, and, finally 1 in that order.
Next came page 2 followed by page 7.

No, it wasn't printed by some non-English speaking print shop somewhere in Asia.  It was printed and bound in Great Britain by Clays Ltd. St. Ives plc in 2002.

Sorry George - it will look bad tomorrow but I just couldn't resist  saying tonight that it appears the printer didn't have the imposition down Pat. . .

Jeffo, after serious consideration of your observation of the situation re the pagination and disposition of the imposition of the publication,  I don't believe an inquisition would be needed.
