I'm trying track down any info on a firm my father worked at in the 60 and 70 in Southwark , south London ....called Stevens and shanks , which merged with gibbons Lyons in the late 70's

https://circuitousroot.com/artifice/letters/press/noncomptype/typography/index.html says that the firm was dissolved in 1971 and the material went to the St.Bride Library, Fleet Street, and they (the library) are the best source for information. The firm started as Stevens and took over from the well-known Figgins foundry, in 1907, becoming Stevens, Shanks in 1933 (see TB Reed, 'A History of the Old English Letterfoundries'. I bought type from them in the late 60s, including several Victorian train sets, and a flock of sheep, which I still have and use.
