Mathematical typography

Setting mathematical typography using hot metal tools would have to be the way to sort the men from the boys, the women from the girls.

But I found reading about the challenges and the developments in the field to be surprisingly interesting. http://www.practicallyefficient.com Perhaps others (or one other) might find the topic fills a gap in your list of things you are happy to avoid being involved in.

Monotype had it figured out very clever. They used 4-line mathematical attachment with a special mould. I don't know how one works (I've never seen it on a machine, let alone in action), but there are some resources, such as this issue of Monotype Recorder:
