Printle: A Printing Word Game from Metal Type

Mechanic

Following the New York World's Fair in 1939,  Westinghouse buried a Time Capsule to be opened in 6939. The tinyurl below takes you to a web site that tells you how the Time Capsule was constructed, what it contains, how it will be protected against vandalism, how word of its location has been left for 5000 years in the future.

Of interest to readers of this site is that the capsule contains handset type containing caps and lowercase of Goudy Village No.2 14pt. A Linotype 8pt 13 em slug set by the Tuckahoe Record in Tuckahoe N.Y. The line reads:

"This  type set by Linotype machine."

There are also a number of books on printing and the history of printing and colour ink chemistry.

Another couple of items made of asbestos by Johns Manville, are also included. Considering what we know about asbestos today, let's hope that this knowledge will still be available in the year 6939.
