Portrait of Giorgi Mihailov Dimitrov.
Dimitrov (1882 -1949) was a printer who later became the Bulgarian Communist leader and first prime minister of the Bulgarian Peoples Republic. This portrait medal was issued by the Government Printing Office in Bulgaria in 1981



The reverse shows a griffon with ink balls.

The Order of Francysk Skaryna

Francysk Skaryna was a printer and publisher of the first printed book in the Belarusian language. He printed the first book in 1517, which is called The Bible of Francysk Skaryna.

The Order of Francysk Skaryna is presented to citizens in recognition of:

considerable achievements in national revival, profound research in the history of Belarus, the national language, literature, art, book publishing, cultural and educational activities, and promotion of the Belarusian cultural heritage;
special merits in humanitarian and charity activities, in the protection of human dignity and rights of citizens, charity and other noble acts.




The Francysk Skaryna Medal is a state award in the Republic of Belarus. The medal differs from the Order of Francysk Skaryna, another state Belarusian award.
The Francysk Skaryna Medal is awarded to Belarusian and foreign citizens for outstanding professional achievements in the fields of science, education, and culture; for great personal contribution to the preservation and enrichment of the Belarusian cultural heritage.

20 Euro Coin      (500th anniversary of Francysk Skaryna's Ruthenian Bible)                  (Lithuania)



Front: of the coin features the remaining part of the cover of Francysk Skaryna's Ruthenian Bible. In the centre against an ornate background – Vytis, the coat of arms of the Republic of Lithuania, at the top – inscription LIETUVA, on the left – coin denomination 20€, on the right – the date of issue of the coin 2017. The logo of the Lithuanian Mint ʟMㅈ (Lietuvos Monetų Kalykla) is impressed on the right-hand side of the obverse of the coin.

Back: of the coin features part of the cover of Francysk Skaryna's Ruthenian Bible, at the bottom – inscription PRANCIŠKAUS SKORINOS RUSĖNIŠKOJI BIBLIJA 500.

İbrahim Müteferrika - First Muslim Printer of the Ottoman Empire

In the courtyard of the second-hand booksellers of the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul, there is the bust of a man with a turban. It is İbrahim Müteferrika, according to the plaque. The seventeen numbered lines below the name are the titles of the seventeen first books printed in Turkish, published in the workshop of Müteferrika, the first Turkish printing press.

İbrahim Müteferrika printed a total of 17 different books throughout his life in the printing house he founded:

The Statue of  İbrahim Müteferrika in Tekirdağ, Turkey

The statue of İbrahim Mütefferika in the small square close to the Rákóczi Museum in Tekirdağ. The two and a half meter high wooden statue was inaugurated on 24th August 2007. The inscription in Hungarian and Turkish writes as following: "I, modest and humble servant, İbrahim Müteferrika, was born in the city of Kolozsvár, Hungary."

Saffron Hill, near Farringdon tube station.

As a comp, not as a minder tho' back in the US he had been both.

The press depicted on the coin was said to have been used by Benjamin Franklin in John Watts's printing shop in London in 1726 and is a part of the American Democracy exhibition in the American History Museum in Washington DC.
