A planned ban on lead in the EU threatens the preservation, restoration and creation of numerous historical techniques: including stained glass, historic stonemasonry techniques, roofing, organ building, musical instrument making, book printing using lead type, technical cultural heritage/restoration of vintage cars and much more. A joint initiative by many stakeholders has already led to more than 2,000 objections to these plans at the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in May 2022.

The current state of affairs:

Due to the strong opposition of many individuals and organizations (such as ICOMOS, ICOM, ECO, ISCCSG, CVMA, INPA, professional ambachtsverenigingen, and others), it is clear that the European Commission adopted the recommendation of the agency, a total of loodverbod will hopefully be more to come. Now, however, efforts have been made in order to exceed the limits for exposure to lead in the workplace, and the bloedgrenswaarden for people who are in this industry to work on a very low level that is, in practice, they are not able to be met. Therefore, it must be the policy of different ways, to continue to ask this question.

A petition submitted to the European Parliament by an interdisciplinary working group has been receiving support since this morning. Support the petition on the website of the Committee on Petitions of the European Parliament (English version)

Please forward this message to other interested colleagues and sympathizers. Unfortunately, it is still urgent that as many stakeholders as possible object at the same time, so that these incomprehensible plans are not realized.
