Hi there people, recently I got interested in some phototype era Monotype stuff, like The New Series span of the recorder and such.

Well I think I asked here about it before but I was in search of The Monotype Recorder XI Robin Nicholas edition.

I found a listing for it on abebooks and thought about asking the seller to digitise it, and they said they could so so for the price of the book, though they also stated is not something they commonly do.

This made me think about if doing this in more of a large scale would be possible.

You know, trying to make a collaborative archive by people funding themselves the digitisation of old stuff and having all this in a website.

What do you all think?

Hi @Sheep and thanks for re-joining the Forum!

I must apologise for the very rare events that led to your original account being "lost" - this forum has been around for 25 years now and such events are most unusual.

As you know we have a huge collection of Monotype Recorders digitised on this site, but most are earlier than the period you are interested in.

I was recently sent this issue by Gill Elliott, which you may be interested in, if you don't already have a copy. I am hoping to digitise it soon, without damaging the spine.

I don't know if you went ahead and paid for a digital copy of the Monotype Recorder XI Robin Nicholas edition from the Abebooks seller, but if you did and have received it, you could add it to the collection on Metal Type by uploading it here.

Back to the main point of your post though, forum contributor @realdougwilson who is currently carrying out research for an upcoming book: Linotype: The Book often uploads items that he has discovered to archive.org where a lot of interesting print-related material can be found including some very old issues of the "Inland Printer."

Hi there Dave as always thanks for the response.

Indeed that seems like an interesting issue! I'll be awaiting its digitisation.

About uploading the issue to the metal type collection, I didn't know 'bout that but I suppose I'td be a nice thing to do if I end up paying for it.

Oh and yeah I know about Doug! His work is really interesting.

Regarding the Inland Printer you just made me aware of it haha.
