Progress on Linotype restoration.

The restoration of the Linotype at the Bradford Industrial Museum is progressing well. The machine is casting good slugs right up to 30 point. Four Magazines have been refurbished which has meant that some of the more distressed ones have been canibalised for parts, especially springs.
The Linotype can be seen working most Wednesdays.

I spent many a happy an hour at the Evening Press in York knocking out 24 and 18pt headings at the Evening Press in York on a very similar Model 78 back in the day!

It wasn't that long ago when the Sydney Morning Herald had over 100 churning out classified advertising. The number of pages in Saturday's edition was a good barometer of the health of the economy generally.
