Probably the first of many articles celebrating the 125th anniversary of the introduction of the Linotype.
This article from "The Atlantic" has a nice photo slide-show.

It is nice to know that the Linotype history is being kept alive. I'm sure you are right Dave, There are dozens of sites either reproducing this article or directing you to the "Atlantic" web page.
I was working for Canadian Linotype in 1961, when the 75th anniversary of Mergenthaler's invention was celebrated. At Canadian Linotype's Christmas party that year, each of the employees were given a pin with, I think a model 1 linotype. I've long since lost mine.
It was at this Celebration that I first heard of The Elektron.
The service manager said to me "George, what do you think of the Elektron?"
I replied, "Electrons? They are so small I hardly ever think about them."
He said "No George, Linotype's new machine."
Having said that he produced a brochure of the Elektron. This was a considerable time before the first machine was shipped. Even then we were still retrofitting improvements for a number of years.
