Printle: A Printing Word Game from Metal Type

This is a photo of 68 year Beatrice Bush, who was known as Sydney's "Newspaper Granny". I use to see her ducking in and out of the traffic, every morning and evening driving to and from work along Victoria Rd. The photo appeared in the Great Australian Annual 1983.

Back in the days when people could be persuaded to pay for their evening paper.

In the 1980s afternoon newspapers were fast becoming unprofitable. On Mach 14, 1988, Young Warwick Fairfax, without any previous notice told the Daily Sun staff that he was closing the paper that day. He offered to let them publish a final edition the next day. The editor refused and The Sun closed with just a couple of paragraphs on the front page to let readers know it was the final edition. Murdock closed the Sydney Mirror on October 5, 1990.
