Printle: A Printing Word Game from Metal Type

Hello Everyone,

I've put onto my Soundclick Music Site a recording of Linotypes (you'll also hear a type saw and men singing!) lasting 7 minutes. I did this I estimate to the nearest month or so, in 1971 going into 1972. The place: the ancient Stockport Advertiser that was on High Street, Stockport, UK. I worked there from leaving school in 1965, to 1973/4. I then moved to the Stockport Express until 1976 when I left the trade.

PS: You might like to listen to my piano music while you are there :D

Kindest Wishes to all.

Quite a few listens when on Soundclick - visitors from here.

Of course you cannot (well I can't) hear the distributor dropping the mats back into magazines. All the noise is bottom end Linotype noise. There would incidentally have been an Intertype there also (yes, I know some of you could pick it out! - LOL). It was done on either an early 60s Phillips reel to reel or possibly on a cassette tape deck.

I do actually think the 'singer' is compositor John Collinson. If my memory serves me right there would also have been in addition to myself and John, - Chris Lee, David Peake, Phil Conduit and AN Other on the Nightshift at this time.

All for now, best wishes.

Hi Tony, for technical reasons I was unable to listen to the file up to now, but that link was useful, I've now downloaded it and will put it onto a portable device to listen to (my computer speakers have given up the ghost!).

I've managed to have a good listen now. The singing guy seems quite talented, a little operatic?
