Printle: A Printing Word Game from Metal Type

Dave Hughes

We've got long-standing Metal Type contributor Graeme How to thank for bringing us the front page of this morning's Gisborne Herald from New Zealand.

It's their 150th anniversary and they are marking the occasion by putting a picture of an old Intertype and some even older operators on their front page!

The caption reads:

Gisborne Herald Managing Director Michael Muir (third from left) with three of his longest-serving employees (from left) Rodney Clague, Graeme Miller and Trevor Petterson. The three retired men, with 161 years of Herald service between them, all worked on linotype machines, one of which is pictured behind them. The hot metal typesetting system was a method of producing the Herald for 75 years.
