What is it?

Jeffo probably has one in the cave. I had never seen one before. It is letterpress related. I'm sure that a number of Metal Type members and guests will know what it is.

I can't see one on the photo, but does it have a pot for melting metal?

Yes Dave it does have a metal pot.

If it looks similar to this machine, which I photographed recently at the Bradford Industrial Museum, I think I've got it!



Jeffo's probably got half a dozen, including the de luxe version, in the cave!

It is very similar. In fact there is another photo of a similar machine elsewhere on Metal Type.

Thanks for solving it for us George, I was going to suggest that it was some kind of "pivotal" typecaster like the one I photographed recently at Bradford.

I presume this is a slightly different machine. I notice it has a big No. 36 painted on it.
