Bruce Anderton recently had some of his collection of photographic slides digitised.

They included some taken in the composing rooms of the Yorkshire Evening Press and the Bradford Telegraph and Argus,  which will be making an appearance on Metal Type very soon.

In the meantime here are some mural pictures that Bruce sent in:

In Bruce's own words:
Quote
Carmelite House in London was one of the many properties situated between Fleet Street and the Embankment occupied by Associated Newspapers Group and featured this interesting door grille.

Here the three subjects are a lorry loaded with rolls of newsprint, a Linotype and a newspaper rotary press. Photographed on August 28, 1985.

A close-up view of the Linotype.

The three subjects on the opposite door are a steam locomotive based on the famous LNER A4 type, an ocean-going liner and an aeroplane.

Mural or Graffiti

I'm not sure if the hourglass is by the mural artist or graffiti added later.

QuoteNewtown – Sydney's Inner-West is the best place to check out impressive mural work by local and internationally famed street artists. Walking down King Street, the first eye-catcher is the "Herald" mural – a re-creation of the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, with an hourglass that jumps out at you as you wait for the bus.
