The Imperial Paper Mill, Schlögelmühle in Payerbach in Lower Austria was in operation from 1851 to 1982 and was one of the largest paper factories of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Ballyclare was the home of papermaking in Ireland for over 200 years, the Paper Mill employing 800 workers at its peak before its closure in 1951.

Conder tokens, also known as 18th-century provincial tokens, were a form of privately minted token coinage struck and used during the later part of the 18th century and the early part of the 19th Century in the U.K.

The driving force behind the need for token coinage was the shortage of small denomination coins for everyday transactions. The Padsole Paper Mill would have had a real need for small change for its large labour force.  There would have needed to be a large labour force because the Padsole Paper mill, which had four vats for paper making, was one of the six largest paper mills in the country at that time.

Culter Paper Mills was founded in 1750 at Culter. The mill closed around 1980.

These tokens allowed employees of the Culter Mills Paper Company free bus travel between Aberdeen and Peterculter.



They seem to have been a forward thinking company and provided some housing for company employees.

If you were an employee of the Culter Paper Mills Company Limited, you were expected to conduct yourself according to Company rules and regulations.

Sulphite Pulp Process - Papermaking - Sweden





Carl Daniel Ekman was a Swedish civil engineer and inventor. He invented the sulphite process, a cheap way of producing paper from wood pulp. Thanks to his efforts, paper could now be produced on a massive scale.

A similar sulfite process had been invented by Benjamin Chew Tilghman in 1867 in Philadelphia, but he was unable to put it into commercial production.

The Chocolat Pupier brand was created in Saint-Étienne, France, in the 1860s. The  founder, Jean-Louis Pupier, handed over the company to his son Joseph in 1895. His grandsons Adrien and Marcel Pupier succeeded their father in 1919.

The company included trade cards in with their products. When collectors completed a full set of cards, they could redeem them for a gift.

İbrahim Müteferrika Paper Museum

The İbrahim Müteferrika Paper Museum was established in 2013 in Yalova, a city on the shores of the Sea of Marmara. The museum is located in the Raif Dinçkök Cultural Center in the city centre.

It is among the most important historical buildings of Yalova in terms of being the first papermaking history museum in Turkey. The Museum exhibits a large number of manuscripts and handmade papers from the Ottoman Period. The museum has a rich document library related to the history of papermaking.

The institution has two sections: the gallery on the first floor and the papermaking atelier in the basement, which hosts handcraft workshops.The gallery invites the visitors to the first Ottoman printing house founded by the İbrahim Müteferrika in Istanbul in 1727 and the paper factory found in the village of Elmalik (close to Yalova) in order to fulfil the needs of the printing house.

The 100 m² space offers interactive ways for children and adults to discover the alternative ways in the time paper had not been invented yet, the history and spread of producing paper, and it also exhibits original prints from İbrahim Müteferrika.

The exhibition also includes a digital copy of all the prints made by İbrahim Müteferrika, which makes it very useful for scholars working on the texts. After going through the exhibition, guests are invited to try making their own organic paper.
