Printle: A Printing Word Game from Metal Type

Rob Clayton

It is a long time since I held an SEP but from memory the feel was similar to LOOK magazine and like most magazines with the exception of Life magazine they were printed by GravureI dont have any production data for the gravure magazines in the US but I do have do have some details ofLlife magazine. British gravure magazines were mainly printed by Sun Engraving up to 1938 when Odhams Press built a factory close to Sun Engraving in order to steal their craftsmen. in the postwas period they were joined by Eric Bemrose in Liverpool who took Picture Post from Sun. If you google sun printerswatford you will come onto an interesting history of the the Sun printing company.    Rob Clayton
