Printle: A Printing Word Game from Metal Type

I agree that the ideal machine for casting 'sorts'  -  to slowly cast a fount to place into case,   -  would be the
'Thompson Typecaster.  Now this machine will take a variety of matrices,  but you need to know a good deal
before you lauch into actually switching on.  There are manuals available, and amazingly the Monotype
Corporation still is (just about) open for business here in London.  Mr Duncan Avery who ran the Matrix
production side can stll accept orders for mats but you need to understand there are important differences
between US Lanson mats, (which will now always be second-hand,)  and English Monotye mats.  I'm not being
nationalistic here, but truly the UK firm's machines wre far better built, and the typeface designs were long
streets ahead - ask anyone who really knows.  Theres also one nice transatlantic touch about the English Monotype Corporation, they often had American Managers, both Works and elsewhere, at a time when this was
most unusual in the UK. Someone once said it was like Laurel & Hardy, or the Mustang fighter, a truly Anglo American sucess.

regards

Stafford
