A web sight worth a visit is the International Printing Museum in Carson, California, USA.

A bit of fun is to take a panoramic view of the Museum's warehouse/printshop. You need QuickTime player to do this.

The Columbian press detailed and photographed is similar to the press first used to print The Sydney Morning Herald in the 1840's. Back in the 1970'S a refurbished Columbian stood in the foyer of the Herald's building on Broadway Street, Sydney. Someone stole the brass name plate from the machine which was most upsetting. Fortunately the Wagga Wagga Daily Advertiser were still using their original Columbian press as a proofing machine in the Job Printing department. Our engineers made a copy of the brass name plate and the machine was returned to it's original glory.
