Can anyone shed any light on what these aluminium Ludlow mats may have been used for?

They've got Jimbo baffled:

Says Jim:

Only today noticed that the mats all have the point size marked on each mat.  The 14 point set is the same except for size.  Hope someone turns up something as it has me and anyone I know baffled.

Are you sure they're Ludlow mats -- maybe they're Nebitype issue?

These are Record Gothic Bold Extended Reversed mats available from Ludlow.

Simply to produce a reversed type.

I too have this face and the mats are  also aluminium.

Probably a good engineering reason why they could not be produced in brass. - Admin.
