I know what it is. I don't know how it worked, or if it ever worked. I'll wait and see if other interested parties know what it was designed to do.

This has been on for a while now, so I'll say that it is a typecasting machine invented by Indian Shankar Abaji Bhisey (1867-1935) called the Bhisotype.

I get the feeling that reports were confusing typecasting with printing from type. Readers can decided for themselves.
