Printle: A Printing Word Game from Metal Type

Dave Hughes

This video from The International Printing Museum has curator Mark Barbour taking an in-depth look at the Unitype Machine, The Rogers Typograph, The Linotype Junior and the Linotype.

He explains the 19th-Century race to speed up typesetting, the patent battles that ensued, and how the Linotype won that race. He also explains how the Linotype wasn't necessarily the answer for every print shop and how the Rogers Typograph become a worthy contender for smaller shops.

A very interesting an informative half hour.
