'Unfinished Business: progress, stasis and new directions in the study of the book trade since Peter Isaac'
Tuesday 9 July - Wednesday 10 July | 0930-16:30 | University of Newcastle
Organised by Print Networks and CPHC in conjunction with the University o Newcastle, this conference looks at the British and Irish book trades locally, nationally and in their global perspective, including comparative perspectives. It asks how has research on these trades' histories developed and advanced, or not, in the past two decades? How has an emphasis on valuing the local, the specific or the seemingly minor been taken up in studies of the book trade? How do such interests sit with the expansion of book trade research into ever larger data-sets and/or within national and global print histories? What are the key social, political and/or technological  questions scholars of the book trade are now grappling with? In what fresh directions must the study of the trades now strike out?

NEW WEBSITE
Virtual Museum of Printing (VMoP)
Phase 1 of the Virtual Museum of Printing website has just gone live. The Virtual Museum of Printing is an online heritage collective that aims to bring together the printing-historical resources of the British Isles in one site. It is a platform for printing historians, practitioners, curators, and other heritage professionals to contribute data, images, video, and narrative relating to their collections. The Virtual Museum of Printing will enable print historians, practitioners, museum curators, and other heritage professionals to contribute data, images, video, and narrative from their collections. This will foster connections and networking, facilitate knowledge exchange, and create training opportunities. Most importantly, museum visitors will be able to engage with many collections related to printing, including some which are wholly or partly inaccessible physically.
