Token from 1794




Obv: Arms and supporters of Bath, W. GYE PRINTER & STATIONER BATH around, 1794 below.
Rev: Female seated instructing boy with key to unlock the prison doors, REMEMBER THE DEBTORS IN ILCHESTER GOAL.

Manufactured by Lutwyche for William Gye, a bookseller and printer in Bath. He was a well-known philanthropist and upon his death, 4,000 people attended his funeral. Debtors were commonly imprisoned in the 18th century for owing small debts which they had no means of repaying, and would often languish in prison for life. Gye would use this token to raise funds for donating to the prisoners.

Front: in its upper part there is the small National Emblem of Ukraine and beneath there are depicted: printing attributes: a galley, printing-press and a cutting tool - to the right and a roll with a seal and an inkstand - to the left and the four line inscriptions: УКРАЇНА, 5, ГРИВЕНЬ, 2001 (Ukraine/ 2001/ 5 / hryvnia) and the Mint logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine

Back: in the centre of the composition there is a depiction of a teacher and students; against the background there are the Round tower and church outlines. The general background combining this picture is the first page of the Ostroh ABC book printed at Ivan Fedorov`s printing house; to the left there is the family emblem of the prince Vasyl K.Ostrozhskiy and a semicircular inscription: ОСТРОЗЬКА АКАДЕМІЯ (Ostroh academy), and beneath, there is the Academy foundation date - 1576

In the middle of the coin, number 5 is surrounded by a square. On the left side of a square is written "KUNA" in Latin letters and on the right side of the square, it is written "KUNA" in Glagolic letters. Above the number, there is placed the Coat of Arms of The Republic of Croatia. Under the number, there is placed the Coat of Arms of the Senj Town. Around the edge, there is written "REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA" twice. On the upper half in Latin letters and on the lower half in the Glagolic letters.

In the inner circle, there is letter "S" written in Glagolic (S like Senj). Letter S (top part) turns into a book with a cross - Missal. Under the Missal, on the right, it is written the year 1494. in Arabic numbers and on the left side, under the Missal, the same year (1494.) is written in Glagolic numbers. The body of the letter S, in the lower part, turns into a silhouette of a Nehaj Town. On the right side of the silhouette is written the year of minting ('94.) and on the left side is author's signature (MD).

Municipal tokens were born in Flanders in 1980.
They were valid for a limited time and only exchangeable at local dealers.
Most coins went straight into the collection of numismatists or private individuals who thought it was a nice must-have.
