Six and a half inch Linotype

If someone told you they had a Linotype 6 1/2" high, you might think they were suffering lead poisoning from metal fumes from their machine's metal pot. Such a machine does, or at least did, exist. In 1933 a Linotype operator in Iowa had spent 8 years building a model Linotype, driven by a little electric motor, that went through all the motions of the linotype. I doubt that it cast a slug.

Interesting article George. Just a shame that the quality of the photo was a little poor (letterpress, eh!)
