Another incredible picture, from Flickr, of a huge row of linecasters, stretching as far as the eye can see!

I've asked the poster of the pic if he can give me further details of what's going on, but I'm still waiting for a reply.

I would hazzard a guess that this isn't a museum.

I couldn't resist this picture.

I'm presuming it's from the same building, casting founder's type.

I must go to Germany for my holidays next year!

Many thanks to Ludwig, from the Letpress list, for supplying the following details:

QuoteThat is in Darmstadt, Germany, Haus der Industriekultur, a Museum
which also houses the Stempel Typefoundry, a active Foundry under the
hands of Rainer Gerstenberg

I'm pleased to say that I have tracked down some pictures of the Stempel Type Foundry and added them to the main site:

Many thanks to Thomas Gravemaker for sending them in.

Hi Dave
Did you ever find out where the line of Linecasters were in Germany?
I was apprenticed as a linotype operator in 1963-68 in Albury NSW Australia
I know it was some time ago the pic was posted

Cheers,

Hi David, and thanks for posting.

I presume you're talking about the picture in the first post of this topic.

It was taken in Darmstadt, Germany, Haus der Industriekultur, a Museum which also housed the Stempel Type foundry, under the hands of Rainer Gerstenberg.

This incredible photograph, which appears on page 2 of the Linotype Europa thread on this Forum, was taken at the same place:

The photographs were taken over fifteen years ago, though, and since then the museum has closed.

There is a petition, etc. to try and save this incredible collection here: Initiative to Preserve the House for Industrial Culture in Darmstadt.

This "slideshow" (with German descriptions) shows a lot of the machines from the museum.
