Was this typeset on a Linotype?

The book "Artifice Ruse and Subterfuge at the Card Table", also known under the title "Expert at the Card Table" was published in 1902 in Chicago, printed by James McKinney & Co. A reprint from 1905 by Drake (likely from the original McKinney plates) can be seen here https://www.loc.gov/resource/rbc0001.2010houd11604/?st=gallery (or here is another link https://www.loc.gov/item/34011788/ )

Can the experts here opine on if this book was set on a linotype, or perhaps on a Monotype, or hand composed.

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say hand set. Here's a sample of the book for people who want to stay on this site. You can see the whole book if you click on the link on the post above.




I can see signs that some of the type may be slightly damaged which makes me believe it was hand set from a case rather than freshly cast.
