Andy Taylor poses this question by email:
is it possible to have my Intertype set up to use English and American
Mats,
say two moulds for English and two for American.
The reason being there is such a huge amount of mats/founts available in
the States.
for some unknown reason I get the feeling it's not that simple!
Or would it be easier buying a new C4 and converting that to American.

ANDY,
If you read my previous post, I apologise.

WHAT I DIDN'T REALISE IS THAT ENGLISH MATS ARE A DIFFERENT DEPTH TO AMERICAN MATS.

Here is a London supplier that has information.

Good luck Andy

It is quite possible to convert an English-depth machine to American-depth, and in years gone by there was a greetings card company in Preston, Lancashire, which had machines with two moulds of each specification on their mould wheels. They wanted to use a typeface called De Roos, which was only available in American-depth mats. One had to be careful, of course!
