Queen's Awards to Industry Stamps
These Royal Mail stamps were affixed to specially designed envelopes and postmarked on the first day that the stamps were issued.

In 1950, the Post Office of Canada and the Government of Canada ceased overprinting "Official Stamps" with O.H.M.S. and began overprinting with the single letter "G".  The G stands for government or gouvernement. Having a bilingual symbol was the major motivation for this decision.

Issued on 5 March 1974  Sulphite Pulp Process - Papermaking                            (Sweden)





Carl Daniel Ekman was a Swedish civil engineer and inventor. He invented the sulphite process, a cheap way of producing paper from wood pulp. Thanks to his efforts, paper could now be produced on a massive scale.

A similar sulphite process had been invented by Benjamin Chew Tilghman in 1867 in Philadelphia, but he was unable to put it into commercial production.

This next stamp leads us neatly into the stamps I have posted in the Movable Type thread and is titled 'Printing' and shows Bi Sheng
