Printle: A Printing Word Game from Metal Type

A great British video showing how high-quality printing (both letterpress and litho) was produced in 1970.

There's some Monotype, a modern Linotype machine, stereo casting, platemaking and more in this comprehensive look at the industry.

Look out for an old teapot being used to add the light-sensitive coating to a plate!

Sit back and enjoy:

QuoteA short documentary on 16mm Kodachrome film stock submitted by the Kynoch Cine Group to the Movie Maker 10 Best (amateur films) of 1970. The film was commended at 4 stars...with judges noting that it was very informative.

The film is about the processes involved in high quality "Fine" press at the time. I must admit to having been drawn in after a couple of minutes...it is kind of interesting how much manual work and physical machinery went in to printing what a current desk top laser printer will do without a moments thought!

Kynoch was a branch of the ICI company, I think, which was devoted to printing for both this company and other clients at the time.
