Printle: A Printing Word Game from Metal Type

Mechanic

The Australian Government has started OCR scanning old newspapers. Obviously the results are not the best, so readers are invited to correct the OCR output. A copy of the original story is provided as a reference. I found one story from the Brisbane Courier dated April 11, 1894. The story is about the wonderful machine the Linotype. I took the trouble to correct the story, as best I could. As an old Linotype mechanic I thought the story was worth the trouble. It includes a photo of the machine.

Isn't that something else? The Dallas Morning News has done similar work scanning their papers, but to "see" them, one must pay a hefty subscription fee.

Thanks for sharing!
