Printle: A Printing Word Game from Metal Type

You've got to admire the Hot Type Centre in Estonia for preserving this German Linotype with a quad distributor system!

Dave,

thank you very much. Technically, the museum in Tartu, Estonia, is called TYPA - but it is certainly a Hot Type Centre!

We did this project week as part of the https://hot-type-network.eu/

In four days we managed to wake up this 102 year old beauty (it is a model 10a from 1923) from a longer sleep - it has never been operated at TYPA, and presumably been idle for several decades. It is amazing what you can achieve with a good group of people - at times we were 7-8 people working on the machine simultaneously: Maarten Renckens from Belgium, Knut Ketil Oftedahl from Norway, Katharina Kilgus from Germany, Marit  Brandsnes from Norway, Archilles Tzallas from Greece, Mark Jordan from the UK, and me, as well as the people from TYPA: Jörgen Loot, Danila Rygovskiy and Charlotte Biszewski.

This was the second week of training of a total of three which we do in 2025. The Hot-Type-Network is open to join for everyone.

Cheers, Franz
