I don't think this machine has anything to do with the Linotype company, but an interesting article:



Apologies for the watermark, but I spotted this photo offered for sale on eBay, while working on another project (to be announced soon).

It's a press photo from 1934, and this was printed on the back:

QuoteNew publications being planned for blind readers. The Braille Institute of American, Incorporated, in Los Angeles, founded by J. Robert Atkinson is one of the most interesting print shop of its kind in the country. Mr. Atkinson, blind himself for 21 years, knows the need of his blind fellows and with this need in mind, he is working toward the realization of a monthly or semi monthly magazine to be printed in "moon type" containing a digest of the world's news. The Atkinson moon linotyper produces an embossed plate from which the printing is done, on ordinary platen presses, and these plates may be filed away and used over and over again for subsequent editions. This has been impossible before, as all the printing done in moon type were produced in England. The moon type of printing, according to Mr. Atkinson is more simple than the braille, and easier for the aged blind to read. The braille institute of American, Incorporated, of which Mr. Atkinson is the head, is dedicated to the literary advancement of the blind. Thousands of blind readers throughout the world appreciate the two secular monthly magazines in braille, edited by Mr. Atkinson. One of these is called the "braille mirror" and the other "March of Events" both carry & digest of world ... articles on travel, exploration, science and...Bits of humor and occasionally a short...
