Paper Mills Then and Now

Back in the late 1950s Canadian Linotype had service contracts with print shops across Canada. I had a territory that covered Western Ontario and Eastern Quebec. Driving through a small town in Quebec I noticed that a lot of people had their nose and mouth covered. When I wound down the car window I knew why, the stench was breath taking to say the least. I stopped for gas. I asked the man who was filling the car and checking the oil and water, what the dreadful smell was and he replied, "It's the paper mill."

Paper mills have come a long way since the fifties. I was reminded of my brief encounter with the Quebec mill when I ran across this video relating to the production of the Australian Financial Review.
